Superb Performance by the Team at the Bob Daplyn Trophy 2008 The Bob Daplyn Trophy Junior Inter-Club competition was held on the 6th December 2008 at Woodside Leisure Centre Watford. Teams from 15 Clubs in Hertfordshire entered the competition, some clubs entering more than one team. Each team, consisted of ten swimmers 5 girls and 5 boys, each team member was allowed to compete in one individual race and up to two relay races. Swimmers entering the competition had to be less than 14 years of age on the 31st December 2008. Hoddesdon entered one girl’s and boy’s team comprising: Jess Waters, Emma Riddick, Kiera Sullivan, Kirstin Meikle, Hayley Warrington, William Yates, Albert Johnson, Tomas Stevens, Chris Smith and Kane Hagley King. The team swam brilliantly in all their individual events every member setting a new personal best time starting off with a great race from Jess Waters in the girl’s 100m IM. This was followed by another very good swim from Albert Johnson in the boy’s 100m IM. Kirstin Meikle recorded the first Hoddesdon win of the competition swimming a fantastic 50m backstroke. This was followed by William Yates who also swam a great race to win the boys 50m backstroke. The girl’s 50m breast stroke was swam in great style by Hayley Warrington where she recorded equal first place. Another great swim by Chris Smith kept the boy’s team in close contention. The girl’s 50m butterfly was a closely contested race where Kiera Sullivan won her heat but was just beaten into second place by a faster time in the next heat. Tomas Stevens kept the boys in close contention with a good 50m butterfly race. Emma Riddick swam brilliantly to give the girl’s their 3rd win in 50m freestyle. Kane Hagley-King also swam a fine race in the boy’s 50m freestyle. On completion of the individual races Hoddesdon girl’s team led the competition and Hoddesdon boys were in second place with just two relay events to go. The excitement was mounting as the first of the relays got underway; this was the girl’s 4x50m freestyle. The Hoddesdon team stormed into the lead and maintained this position to finish in first place. The 4x50 girl’s medley relay proved an even more exiting climax to the girl’s events and although the Hoddesdon team swam brilliantly they were just beaten into second place. The boy’s 4x50 freestyle and medley relays teams proved just as exiting as the girls and the final medley relay race had the spectators on their feet so close was the race for 1st 2nd and 3rd place. Despite a sterling effort from the boys they were just beaten into 4th place. The final points total at the end of the competition resulted in a thoroughly well deserved competition win and the Bob Daplyn Trophy for the Hoddesdon girl’s team. The boy’s team ended up with most commendable competition third position. Head Coach Janet Warrington was delighted with the performance of each member of the team; she said the outcome of the competition was every thing she could have hoped for. Well done to everybody who took part you were just the greatest. The official results have now been received and can be seen via this link;
