Round Three of Herts Major League

Gala Report.

The third round of the 2010 Major League Division 1 was held at Hitchin swimming pool hosted by Watford Swimming Club. Hoddesdon swimming club were in sixth place at the beginning of the gala but the team swam really well and were able to climb 2 places to finish a very commendable 4th place in Division 1. Well done to all members of the team for an outstanding performance.

Combined Rounds One and Two of Herts Major League

Gala Report.

The combined first/second round event of this year’s Major League was held at Hatfield Swim Village on Saturday 30th January. Hoddesdon swimmers put up a good performance coming 3rd in a gala that was notable for new personal best times being set. As expected, the gala produced keen competition between the competing teams and once again the spectators were treated to an enjoyable evening of quality performances from all the swimmers. The team manager, Mark Charles said that it was a good result for Hoddesdon, the team had done the club proud. We were only 4 points away from second place, all the team gave 100% and we can’t ask for more. Well done!

On the night Hoddesdon swimmers achieved, 4-1st places, 12- 2nd places and 11-3rd places. There were 15 new personal best times set by: Georgina Fisher (x2), Ben Scott, Keira Sullivan, Sydney Crouch, Chris Smith (x2), Rebecca Freestone, Markus Schofield-Bezer (x2), Chris Stevens, Kirstin Meikle, Karl Batorski, Kaitlyn Walsh and Kane Hagley-King. There was a new club record set by the team of: Ben Mason, Chris Stevens, Karl Batorski and Craig Ross in the open men’s freestyle relay event.

Swimmers of the Gala went to: Georgina Fisher and Kane Hagley-King.

There were No Disqualifications!

Results of the Gala: 1st Hatfield 75 points, 2nd Harpenden 163 points, 3rd Hoddesdon 167 points, 4th Stevenage 174 points, 5th Costa 185 points and 6th Verulum 271 points.

Round Three of 2009 Herts Major League

Gala Report.

The Hoddesdon team travelled to Hitchin on Saturday 28th February to compete in the final round of this year’s Major League competition. Having finished in third and second positions respectively in the previous two rounds hopes were high that the team could maintain their impressive performance and achieve another top three position finish. It proved to be a really exciting gala with each team doing their utmost to win maximum points in each event. At the halfway mark the Hoddesdon team were lying in third place ahead of Watford and feeling confident that if they could put in a strong challenge in the second half of the gala they stood a good chance of bringing off a third place result. However, despite every member of the team swimming brilliantly they were unable to maintain their lead and had to settle for a fourth place finish 2.5 points behind Watford on the night. The team Manager, Head Coach, team coaches and all the staff want to say well done to the team, you have done the club proud and you should all be pleased with your achievements throughout the Major League series.

Every team member swam well whether they were competing in an individual event or as part of a relay team. However, it is not practical to mention everyone but the swimmers who achieved either first, second or third place or set a new PB are mentioned below.

Individual Events

Lucy Charles, first place in: Ladies Open 100m freestyle, girls U16 100m butterfly, girls U16 100m freestyle and Ladies Open 100m butterfly.

Hayley Warrington, first place in girls U12 50m breastroke, third place in girls U14 100m breastroke with a PB and Club Record, third place in girls U12 50m butterfly.

Kiera Sullivan, third place in girls U14 100m butterfly.

Emma Warrington, first place in Ladies Open 100m breastroke, girls U16 100m breastroke.

Tomas Stevens, second place in boy’s U12 50m backstroke, boy’s U12 50m butterfly.

Relay Events

Second Place  Girls Open 4x2 medley relay

New PB records were set by: Georgina Fisher girls U12 50m freestyle, Chris Smith boy’s U14 100m breastroke, Luke Broughal boy’s U14 100m butterfly and William Yates boy’s U14 100m backstroke.

Swimmer of the gala awards were presented to; Hayley Warrington and William Yates.

    Round Two of 2009 Herts Major League

Gala Report

The Hoddesdon team travelled to Stevenage Swimming Centre to host the second round of the Herts Major League. Having finished in 3rd position in round 1,the team was determined to do better in round 2. Following a thoroughly enjoyable gala in which the team gave 110 % of effort,they ended the night in a respectable second place behind Bishops Stortford.

There were some excellent swims from the Hoddesdon team with 14 PB’s and 5 new clubs records being set. The gala was well run with some excellent swims from all of the clubs taking part.

As always, Lucy got the team off to a good start by winning the Ladies Open 100m freestyle race and going on to win the Girl’s U/16 100m butterfly and 100m Freestyle events and coming second in the Girls Open 100m butterfly. Ben Mason swam well getting a second place in the Men’s Open 100m Freestyle and Sydney Crouch came second in the Girl’s U/12 50m backstroke with a new PB.Tomas Stevens swam brilliantly to come first in the Boy’s U/12 50m backstoke with a new PB and club record, he also came first in the Boy’s U/12 50m butterfly with another yet another PB. 

Jess Waters swam well to gain a new PB but was narrowly beaten into 2nd place in the Girl’s U/14 breaststroke event,while Hayley Warrington went from strength to strength breaking her own club record gaining 1st place in the girl’s 50m U/12 breastroke with a new PB. Hayley also set another PB coming 2nd in the Girl’s U/12 50 m butterfly event.

Joshua Ramsey set a new PB coming third in the Boy’s U/12 50m breastroke and Chris Stevens came 3rd in the Boy’s U/16 100m Freestyle event.

As expected Emma Warrington swam well to win the Ladies Open 100m breaststroke and also came 1st in Girl’s 100m U/16 breastroke and Kiera Sullivan came 2nd in the Girl’s u/14 100m butterfly event.

Karl Batorski powered to an impressive win in the Men’s Open 100m breaststroke and Men’s Open 100m butterfly events. Annie Groome came 2nd in the Girl’s U/16 100m backstroke and Adam Dunkley came 3rd in the Boy’s U/16 100m backstroke setting a new PB.

Emma Riddick came 3rd in the Girl’s 100m Freestyle and Shona Costello came 2nd in the Girl’s U/12 Freestyle race setting a new PB. Josh Arnold came 3rd in the Boy’s U/16 100m Breastroke.

There were some excellent relay race results from the team, notably:

1st in the Boy’s Open 4x2 Medley Relay,

1st in the Girl’s U/12 Freestyle Relay in a new club record time.

1st in the Girl’s U/16 4x2 Medley Relay.

1st in the Girl’s U/14 4x2 Freestyle Relay.

1st in the Ladies open 4x2 Freestyle Relay,

1st in the Girl’s U/12 4x2 Meley Relay in a new club record time.

1st in the Girl’s U/16 4x2 Freestyle Relay.

2nd in the mixed Boys and Girls 8x2 Freestyle Squadron relay in a new club record time.

2nd in the Ladies Open 4x2 Medley Relay.

3rd in the Boy’s U/12 Freestyle Relay,

3rd in the Boy’s U/16 Medley Relay

3rd in Men’s Open 4x2 Freestyle Relay.

3rd in the Boy’s U/12 4x2 Medley Relay.

2nd in the Boy’s U/16 4x2 Freestyle Relay.

Round One of 2009 Herts Major League

Round 1 Gala Report

The team travelled to Hitchin swimming centre on Saturday 10th January 2009 for the first round gala in the 2009 Major league series. We were drawn against our old rivals Bishop’s Stortford and Watford so the gala had all the makings of being a closely contested battle for the top three positions. Our team swam well considering that this was their first competition after a long break from training over the Christmas period. In individual events we achieved 9 first places, 3 second places and 3 third places and in relay events we scored 5 first places and 6 second places. However our old rivals were also performing consistently well and despite a strong performance from our team resulting in achieving 8 Pb’s and 1 club record we had to settle for a slightly disappointing 3rd place on the night. Never the less every member of the girl’s and boy’s team should feel pleased with their performance and they can look forward to the remaining two rounds of the competition knowing that now we are back in full time training we can achieve the results that the team is capable of.

The top individual girl’s performances of the gala were as follows:

 Lucy Charles – 2 first places in the girl’s open 100m freestyle and girl’s U16  100m and second place in the girl’s open 100m butterfly.

Emma Warrington - 2 first places in the girl’s open 100m breastroke and girl’s U16 100m breastroke.

Hayley Warrington – first place, PB and new club record in the girl’s U12 50m breastroke and third place in the girl’s U12 50m butterfly.

Emma Riddick – first place and PB in the girl’s U14 100m freestyle.

Kiera Sullivan- second place in the girl’s U14 100m backstroke

Annie Groome- 2 third places in the girl’s open 100m backstroke and girl’s U16 100m backstroke.

 The top individual boy’s performances of the gala were as follows:

Tomas Stevens -2 first places in the boys U12 50m backstroke (PB) and boy’s U12 50m butterfly.

Karl Bartorski – first place in the boy’s open 100m breastroke and second place in the boy’s open 100m breastroke.

The top girl’s relay performances of the gala were as follows:

First Place- in the girl’s open 4x2 freestyle relay, girl’s U16 4x2 medley & freestyle relay and girl’s U14 4x2 freestyle relay.

Second Place -in the girl’s open 4x2 medley relay, girl’s U12 4x2 freestyle & medley relays and girl’s U14 4x2 medley relay.

The top boy’s relay performances of the gala were as follows:

First Place – boy’s open 4x2 medley relay.

Second Place – boy’s open 4x2 freestyle relay.

The top mixed relay performance of the gala was second in the 8x2 Squadron relay.

Swimmer of the gala award was presented to: Emma Riddick and Tomas Stevens.

Results of the gala- 1st place Bishop’s Stortford 120 points, 2nd place Watford 139 points, 3rd place Hoddesdon 151 points, 4th place Harpendon 199 points, 5th place Berkhampsted Barracuda 205 points and 6th place Costa blue 217 points.
